In June, we went on a cycling vacation in Macedonia/Albania. In a word great!!! It is a very quiet and green country, with mostly good roads. The routes are varied; through the mountains with many trees, through the valley with beautiful flowers and lots of views. The accommodations were also very different, but all fine, especially Lakeview and Saint Naum. If you love biking and have a little fitness, it’s super fun!!!
We experienced the whole organization and personal guidance from Raymond as super good!!!
(And Ton very much enjoyed the mountain bike tour he took on a day off with Raymond and some Macedonian friends).
Thanks Raymond, and we are already looking forward to another trip!!!

Fine cycling trip. Not too heavy. Comfortable hotels, mostly with opportunity for swimming. Good bikes. I had never been to Macedonia before. It comes highly recommended. Beautiful rides through forests. Lake views. Beautiful monasteries. And the city of Ohrid is not called the “pearl of the Balkans” for nothing.

11 day cycling trip Macedonia, May 2015 Beautiful cycling trip around lakes and through beautiful natural parks. Nice, quiet routes on good roads and some bits of unpaved through a farming landscape. All around you flowers, lizards and unusual birds, including pelicans. Trips to a waterfall, a reconstructed village on stilts in the water, monastery, church and even to Albania. The locals are friendly and hospitable and prices are pleasantly low. The hotels are well chosen and very different. Ohrid is a cozy place to spend a rest day. Excellent guidance and care by Raymond and Simone. Highly recommended.

For September 2018, we were looking for an individual cycling vacation of about 20 days in a beautiful area at the vacation fair. There were several providers, but none of them could offer it ready-made. At all the organizations, they had tours for shorter periods. It was possible to join several tours together, but we would pay for the organization and extra costs of bike changes, transportation and overnight stays. At Eye4cycling, they thought with us and planned a route from Macedonia to northern Greece. A period of 20 days with some (possible) rest days and an average of 60 km per day in partly mountainous terrain. We had to book the air travel there and back ourselves so we could pick the most favorable flights, although they were willing to mediate. After a few weeks, we decided to do this, because it was the best proposal. However, the return flight from Thessaloniki to Amsterdam would cost 180 euros more per person on the scheduled date than 3 days later. Within 1 day, Eye4cycling arranged for us to spend only 120 euros more for 2 people for 3 days longer stay at the last hotel. Now that’s service. All scheduled transits went exactly as scheduled. The first evening we arrived at the hotel in Ohrid at 10 p.m., but there was no problem at all in getting us another hot meal. The next morning the bikes were arranged. These were of excellent quality and rode lightly. We did not need the included emergency/repair kit, but it did make us feel safe. The navigation entered, except for one minor glitch, always took us to our next hotel without any problems. The route was, as we had hoped, variable in landscapes so that we could experience different nature each day. It was striking that we drove through beautiful valleys with almost uninhabited villages because young people prefer cities, or even better, the rich West. The hotels were also very diverse, but all of good quality. The quality of food and drink in both Macedonia and Greece are of good quality, especially Macedonia is very cheap. The 3 extra days in Thessaloniki were a wonderful addition in this historic city. We were so pleased with the organization that we offered to make a positive report on it. Wow, what a great trip this was, hiking and biking in Macedonia ! Everything perfectly arranged and very personal guidance. We were so excited that on the way back at the airport we immediately warmed up a few people to take this trip as well. We had requested a combo of biking and hiking, for us a great combination. Biking allows you to see more of the country, hiking allows you to penetrate deeper into the beautiful national parks. The organization by Eye4cycling left nothing to be desired. Everything nicely tailored, with daily apps about what to expect from the bike tour. Good bikes, nice tours, good tools and nice roomy, eye-catching panniers with you. The National Parks are beautiful, but hiking trails are hard to find. All routes are marked with red and white. Signs with maps are faded by the sun, making it easy to miss. But no matter where you walk , it is beautiful everywhere. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic vacation with family (3 boys, 16,14,11). Cycling was tough, but went well. Even our youngest member was able to conquer all the hills. Nice change in cycling in the morning and swimming in the afternoon! Real reward for the boys. Beautiful nature and lakes. In short, a vacation not to forget!

Macedonia, highly recommended! A beautiful cycling country with climbs and many descents. Every day was promising and full of surprises. excellently organized by Raymond and Simone. Each bike ride was perfectly balanced with rest stops, picnics and lunch. It took us to many beautiful idyllic spots on different lakes with lots of greenery and flowers, waterfalls, monasteries, churches and orchards. Every day we were rewarded with a lovely little hotel with a nice atmosphere and friendliness, great food, wine and, of course, beer. The rest day in Ohrid was also enjoyable, very worthwhile. A town located right on the lake with lots of culture and stores, with a promenade full of terraces that still exudes tranquility. In short, a land that is still unspoiled. Finally, kudos to the organization of Raymond and Simone, knowledgeable, warm and cordial, Thanks for these great days! Lea and Hans

I enjoyed my vacation with eye4cycling! Macedonia is a beautiful green country, very hilly but very beautiful. The cycling was quite manageable for me, also thanks to the e-bike I rented from you. With a regular bike, first of all, you need to be in good shape. And then I don’t think age matters much. It also has to do with your attitude, it’s a lot of climbing meters after all!
I enjoyed the beautiful views, although I would have liked to sit on a terrace a little more often and not just do bike miles. I am aware that in a country like Macedonia there are few outdoor cafes along the way, at least we did not see them, but that is also an important part of a cycling vacation for us.
So the vacation was great, but all four of us missed it a bit!

As an autumn vacation, we made the cycling trip from Orhid (Macedonia) to Meteora (Greece). Out for the sixth time with Eye4Cycling. That actually says it all. And again, this will not be the last time. The coaching by Raymond and his assistant Peter was again excellent. It was our second time in Macedonia. Ohrid is becoming a familiar town where we have addresses by now. We had driven the first part in the opposite direction last time. Dan looks different again, especially because of the landmarks. The overnight stays are in such special and beautiful places that we loved coming back. We biked through a fairly unspoiled and untouched landscape. The same was true for the first Greek days. Quiet, calm, little tourism. A gentle run-up to the highlight: Meteora. A spectacular mountain landscape, about which Wikipedia says: Centuries of wind and water erosion (once the Thessalian plain was an inland sea) have given the rock formations their specific and difficult to negotiate appearance. Starting in the ninth century, hermits climbed up here, followed in the 11th century by monks expelled elsewhere. In the fourteenth century, monks began building monasteries. It became 24, of which six now remain in good condition. These, of course, attract many tourists, who are transported on and off by bus. Being early will keep you ahead of the large stream of visitors. We hadn’t really read up beforehand, which made Meteora even more surprising. To conclude, we walked around Thessaloniki for two more days. The second and busiest city in Greece. Not beautiful, but interesting because of its eventful history, for example as the birthplace of Atatürk (the architect of modern Turkey). We lucked out with our traveling party, like-minded sporty couples who, like us, liked to spend evenings looking for a nice restaurant with local food.

Eye4cycling once again put together a very nice cycling vacation. The second group trip in Macedonia June 30 was a wonderful experience. A landscape that can be described as a mix between the French Alps and southern Austrian lake regions. The routes were on relatively good roads with little traffic, although one remains wary of the occasional fast passing Mercedes. Fortunately, no aggressive dogs or other cycling inconveniences, you can cycle very relaxed. Along some routes plenty of fruit, nuts ed in the trees, delicious for the lovers. Hotels were fine, mostly right on the water so that after the bike ride a wonderful dip in the lake could be taken with crystal clear water and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Good food anywhere, though the portions are generous and they like meat. Sometimes a salad with some bread is enough. Macedonians are humble and friendly people who usually speak an occasional word of English. The hybrid bikes are a delight, ride very lightly and pose no problem for the occasional bit of dirt. It does lack a stand which is inconvenient if you get off to take a picture, for example. Tours are doable, including the occasional longer climb in the second week. Fortunately, in hot weather, there is reasonable shade on the trail. I join the others: highly recommended ! Greetings Herman
