Arrival.

After arriving at the hotel in Berg en Dal, you can immediately explore the area. The hotel is located in a wooded area and within walking distance of the cozy town of Beek. For those who love a nice walk, we can recommend the N-70: a beautiful hiking trail within walking distance from the hotel. A visit to the Africa Museum is also recommended.

Should you arrive early you can, of course, go on one of the cycling routes such as the wine cycling route. (28km) This bicycle route takes you past the vineyards that Groesbeek and Berg en Dal are rich in. Make a stop at vineyard Klein Amerika or De Planck to learn more about viticulture or for coffee and apple pie.

River landscape route (52km) or Kleve route (55km)

You can choose from several bike routes today. The River Landscape Route takes you into the river landscape of the Meuse and Niers rivers. Near Milsbeek you’ll find Teahouse Milsbeek: a lovely place for a cup of coffee in a farmhouse retreat where bread used to be baked.

During the Kleve route, you will take a trip to Germany . This “Via Verde of the Low Countries” is a bike path along an old railroad line to the German old border town of Kleve. Kleve is an excellent place for lunch or coffee stop.

Overnight Berg and Dal

Berg en Dal-Wageningen (41- 49 km)

You can choose from 2 different distances today. The longest route makes a nice loop through the Ooijpolder and is definitely recommended.

You will cycle over Nijmegen’s famous bridge along the river Waal over dikes and through the Betuwe towards Wageningen. The completely flat polder landscape is in stark contrast to the moraine on the northern side of the Lower Rhine. The ferry will take you across the river. Hotel De Wereld is a nice location for lunch. Here, on May 5, 1945, the terms of capitulation were agreed upon. In the hotel lobby you will find a beautiful account of this historic event. The hotel is located on a lateral moraine from the last ice age overlooking the lower Lower Rhine and the Overbetuwe.

Airborne route (48km) or Grebbelinie route (53km)

Both of today’s bicycle routes center on the liberation of the Netherlands during World War^II.

During the Airborne route, you will cycle over dikes along the southern bank of the Lower Rhine towards Arnhem. You will cross the Rhine at Arnhem via the John Frost Bridge. This bridge has been the setting of many a movie, including the film “A Bridge Too Far. Hotel Hartenstein is inextricably linked to the famous Battle of Arnhem and now serves as Airborne Museum Hartenstein and is well worth a visit.

The Grebbelinie route goes westward where the Lower Rhine and the Valley Canal connect. The valley canal was constructed during the period 1935 – 1941 as part of the labor supply. On the one hand, the canal was intended to strengthen the Grebbelinie; on the other hand, the canal benefited – and still benefits – the drainage of the Gelderland valley. A visit to the Grebbelinie museum , in Woudenberg is highly recommended.

Wageningen- Ellecom (58 km)

This multifaceted route initially takes you across the Ginkelse Heide near Ede.

After Otterlo, you will cycle through the National Park De Hoge Veluwe. The park is known for its versatility: forest, heathland, grassy plains, sand drifts and habitat for deer, mouflon and wild boar, among others In the park you can visit the Kröller-Müller Museum which includes the second largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh. Through the National Park Veluwezoom you reach the hotel in Ellecom

National Park Veluwezoom route (53km)

Today you will cycle through a hilly and very diverse natural area. This environment is also the habitat of many animal species such as fallow deer and red deer but also provide habitat for native reptile species. Visitor Center Veluwezoom is located on the bicycle route and gives you all the information you need about the flora and fauna of this area. Make a stop at the highest waterfall in the Netherlands and visit the Middelste Molen; a paper mill with museum.
