Cycling into history.

The 9-day individual and group cycling vacation in Turkey, from Fethiye to Adrasan, Trans Lykia, is well suited for those with a passion for history and culture. The beautiful surroundings, varied landscapes and ancient remains make for an exceptional cycling trip.

Day to day

After arriving at Dalaman airport, you still have a scenic drive of about 45 minutes ahead of you that will take you to the accommodation for the first 3 days in Fethiye. You will stay in a small-scale, typical Turkish hotel run by a hospitable Turkish family who also speaks Dutch. Fethiye is situated on a beautiful bay and surrounded by the foothills of the Taurus Mountains. Fethiye still has an authentic center, called Paspatur, where you will find all kinds of stores and a fish market surrounded by restaurants where your purchased fish is prepared into a delicious meal. The ancient amphitheater is located at the end of the promenade, near the port. The amphitheater at the port and the Lycian rock tombs, remind of the rich history of this area.

Overnight stay in Fethiye

During this first bike ride, you will be introduced to the cozy port town of Fethiye. A visit to the old paspartur with a wide variety of stores is definitely recommended. The tour of the peninsula with its many coves is beautiful and a sight to behold.

You can also choose a bicycle route through the green valley. The first part of this bike tour today you will cycle along a coastal bike path to the beach area of Fethiye. On the promenade you can enjoy a cup of coffee. You will then cycle past orchards and follow the river upstream into the valley. We have selected a lunch spot for you right on the fast-flowing river. Everything here comes from our own garden and the homemade bread and olives taste delicious. This is truly Turkey at its best!

Overnight stay in Fethiye

After breakfast, follows a 25-km transfer to the village of Zorlar. This bike ride takes you through the foothills of the Akdaglar Mountains through a wide valley to the bay of Patara. Cycling through farming countryside on narrow interior roads. Halfway through this drive, you will pass the gorge of Saklikent. This impressive gorge is about 20km deep. The first part of this gorge can be visited on foot. Saklikent is a great place for lunch. Highly recommended is the Turkish Gozleme. This delicious Turkish pancake is filled with, for example, cheese and vegetables, potato or honey. After lunch, the route continues along the river and then along rolling roads to the ancient site of Xanthos. From there, it is just a short drive to the ancient village of Patara.
Patara is not only known for its archaeological antiquities, but is also known for the longest sandy beach in Turkey and the special dune landscape behind it. No rows of hotels here but unspoiled nature.

Overnight stay in Patara

Today a short bike ride and that gives you the opportunity to see the ancient Lycian city of Patara, the birthplace of Saint Nicholas. In ancient times, it was the capital of the Lycian federation with a large port. From the hotel the distance is only 1.5 km and you will hardly encounter a tourist here.
You cycle almost entirely along a coastal road to the fishing village of Kaş. Upon exiting Patara, immediately begins the only tough climb of about 5 km to an altitude of 225 meters over well-running asphalt. At the top of the climb is the village of Eski Kalkan, or old Kalkan where you can get something to eat and drink in several places. The last 25 km of this ride are a real treat! This coastal road was carved into the mountains in the 1950s, literally. Beautiful views over good running asphalt with a short climb here and there. On the way you will pass the beautiful sandy beach of Kaputaş; also a wonderful place for a refreshing dip in the turquoise sea. Kaş was still Greek at the beginning of the 20th century. This can still be clearly seen on the facades in the old town.

Overnight stay in Kaş

The fishing village of Kaş is an authentic port town with many cozy little stores, restaurants, bars and terraces. The narrow, winding streets with old houses and stylish wooden balconies give it a special atmosphere.
Kaş is built against a mountain ridge and has about 4,500 inhabitants. The Lycians called the fishing village Antiphellos or Phellos 3,000 years ago. Until 1923, most of the population was Greek. This can still be seen in the style of the many old houses and in the white-plastered mosque, a former Greek church. In Kaş you can eat and drink well and affordably with a choice of many cafes and restaurants. Kaş is also a true paradise for divers. In addition, Kaş also offers archaeological sites such as a theater from the Hellenistic era and Lycian tombs from the fourth century BC.

You may also wish to take a short bike ride around the Cukurbag Peninsula

Overnight stay in Kaş

After breakfast follows a short transfer to an altitude of 500 meters. From there you will cycle the first part in a descending line through a beautiful valley with agricultural villages. Here, time has literally stood still. Car-low asphalt roads, farming villages and vast landscapes and the occasional herd of goats form the backdrop. In the locality of Demre, there are the ancient sites of the ancient city of Myra. Myra is also the place where the “real” St. Nicholas was buried. Today’s finale is a 25-kilometer road along a jagged coast with a succession of coves and small beaches. Truly a feast for the eyes.

Overnight in Finike

During breakfast you will already have a good view of the first part of today’s cycling route. Most of the first 25 km of cycling is right on the coastline and past a vast greenhouse area for growing tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and eggplants. Then the road begins to ascend gradually with views of quiet beaches and beautiful cliffs After a spirited climb, descend to the village of Çavuşköy. This is a great place for lunch. After lunch, it is almost flat until the bay of Adrasan. This bay is characterized by a beautiful extensive sandy beach. The time for a wonderful refreshing dip in the salty sea water!

Overnight in Adrasan.

From your wooden bungalow, just walk onto the beach and a delicious breakfast awaits you. This place invites you to relax and is truly an oasis of tranquility. You have several options today such as a nice bike ride to the ancient city of Olympos.
Olympos was the easternmost city of the Lycian federation. Between the present village and the beach, many ruins can still be seen that represent the past glory of Olympos. After walking past the remains of this city, continue on your way and bike the same way back to Adrasan Bay. You can also choose today to spend a day boating and enjoying yourself on the water.

In short, a wonderful end to your cycling vacation!

After breakfast, it’s time to pack the bags. The driver will take you to Antalya airport for the return trip.
