Day to day

Upon arrival at your hotel, a short walk around the corner will take you to Urby BikeBerlin for a welcome drink and bike tune-up. The afternoon includes an optional 2-hour guided tour of the charming neighborhoods of Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte, passing many attractions such as the Berlin Wall Open Air Museum, Unter den Linden, the Holocaust Monument, Checkpoint Charlie and much more.
The first two nights in Berlin you will stay at the cozy Hotel Birgit, tucked away in a quiet spot in Berlin’s vibrant Prenzlauer Berg district. Surrounded by trendy cafes, bars and creative culture, the hotel is just a 3-minute walk from the popular Kastanienallee or the Senefelderplatz subway station, and about 20 minutes from iconic Alexanderplatz. With cozy rooms, a verdant garden and a warm lounge bar, it feels like a stylish retreat, perfectly located for exploring Berlin’s energy.

We continue exploring Berlin and its green surroundings. Today we continue cycling through Mitte with its rich Prussian history and ride through Kreuzberg and Neukölln, known for their alternative lifestyles. We visit the former Tempelhof airport – now a popular city park – before cycling through the woods along the Spree River to the old town of Köpenick. On the way back, we pass the famous graffiti of the East Side Gallery and the impressive Soviet architecture of the Karl-Marx-Allee. In total we cycle about 55 km, spread over 7 hours (including stops).
After returning to our hotel, we invite you to a fun beer tasting, presenting different types of German beer (with or without alcohol), so you can discover your favorites for the rest of the trip! For dinner, we will be happy to advise you on the many restaurants in the area.

Leaving Berlin, we pass the iconic Brandenburg Gate to Tiergarten and cycle through the green and affluent neighborhoods of West Berlin to Potsdam, with stops at Charlottenburg Palace and the 1936 Olympic Stadium. Entering the Grunewald forest, we climb the Drachenberg for a final panoramic view of Berlin. We continue cycling along the Havel River to Wannsee and cross the Glienicker Brücke (“Bridge of Spies”) before entering Park Neuer Garten and Potsdam, including, of course, the lush, Versailles-inspired Sanssouci Park and Palace.
Tonight we stay at Hotel Am Großen Waisenhaus, a quiet boutique hotel in the heart of Potsdam’s historic downtown. Housed in a beautifully renovated former army building, the hotel combines elegantly appointed, individually styled rooms with tranquil garden spaces that feel like a hidden oasis in the city.

After our night in the old town of Potsdam, the route partly follows the Mauerweg bike trail along the southern edge of Berlin, through more forests, fields and old towns surrounding the new airport. As we leave Berlin behind, we plunge into the lake area of Dahme-Heideseen, with peaceful lakes surrounded by vast forests.
We arrive at the elegant lake resort Residenz Seehotel, right on the shore of Lake Motzener See. Surrounded by forests and water, the hotel offers spacious rooms, a relaxing spa area and a stylish restaurant.

We dive further into the forests of the Dahme-Heideseen lake area. We pass an open-air exhibition commemorating the Battle of Halbe at the end of World War II, after which beautiful quiet bike paths and forest roads take us into the lower Spreewald. Cycling along serene streams and canals, we pass through charming old villages such as Schlepzig, Lübben and Lübbenau.
We end our ride at the majestic hotel Schloss Lübbenau, where we spend two nights. Located in the heart of the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve, surrounded by small rivers, canals and landscape gardens, this historic castle hotel combines elegant 19th-century architecture with modern comforts.

On this rest day, we take a beautiful tour through the heart of the UNESCO-protected Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. We cycle through the lush wetlands with their maze of quiet waterways, inhabited by countless birds such as storks, herons, kingfishers and even cranes. Culturally, this is also an interesting area, as it is home to the Sorbian and Wendish communities, a protected Slavic minority with their own culture, costumes and traditions.
Today, you can choose between a day trip or a shorter itinerary to spend the afternoon relaxing at the hotel and enjoying the city. At the end of the day we invite you on an enchanting gondola-like boat ride to the densest and most beautiful part of the Spreewald.

After leaving the Spreewald, we cross from Brandenburg into the former kingdom (and current state) of Saxony. Today we will cycle through Lusatia, a region that has undergone a fascinating transformation: the polluting brown coal mines of the GDR have been transformed into serene lakes surrounded by forests and an excellent network of bike trails.
We will spend the night in a rare gem in this sparsely populated area: the rural castle hotel Schloss Hohenbocka, which has recently been beautifully restored and offers spacious rooms, a gym and a traditional “Banja”-style sauna. Since there are no restaurants in the area, tonight a delicious BBQ dinner on the castle grounds is included (vegetarian options as well).

After our night in the peace and quiet of Hohenbocka, we cycle on to Saxony’s magnificent capital, Dresden. The Old Town, destroyed by Allied bombing at the end of World War II, was restored to its former Baroque glory after reunification and has regained its nickname “the Florence of the Elbe.” Along the way we pass the picturesque Moritzburg Castle and descend through vineyards with magnificent views of Dresden into the Elbe Valley.
The last two nights we will stay at the opulent Bilderberg Bellevue Hotel, perfectly located on the banks of the Elbe, right on the spot where the Italian painter Canaletto created his famous painting with the most iconic view across the Elbe to the historic city center: the “Canaletto view.” From here, both the historic city center with the famous Frauenkirche, the Semperoper and the Zwinger complex, and the livelier “new town” (from the late 18th century) are a few minutes’ walk away.

After a sumptuous breakfast buffet, on our last day of cycling we follow the most beautiful stretch of the Elbe Road, through the Elbe Valley full of estates and castles, to the sandstone mountains of Saxon Switzerland (Sächsische Schweiz) – although our trip through the river valley has hardly any elevation change. We cross the river by ferry, after which you have the option to hike to the famous and picturesque Bastei Bridge, before cycling back to Dresden on the other side of the river. In the evening we conclude with a walk through the Old Town.

On the last morning, after enjoying a breakfast buffet, you can return to Berlin with us by train at the end of the morning, or organize your own return or onward journey from Dresden. Bikes will be returned to Berlin by bus; if it is your own bike, you can pick it up at Urby Bike (around the corner from Hotel Birgit), or upon arrival at Berlin Hbf if you wish to continue your journey directly from there.
