A time travel by bicycle through beautiful nature!
7-day cycling vacation through the Eifel region
If you are looking for a cycling vacation through a beautiful area, not too far from home, we can highly recommend this special cycling vacation. The German Eifel is located east of Belgium and Luxembourg about 2.5 hours' drive from Utrecht.
When most cyclists think of the Eifel, they think of tough climbs through a hilly area. However, we have put together a cycling vacation for you where you can enjoy all the wonderful things this area has to offer without having to exert yourself too much. So you have plenty of time along the way to enjoy the beautiful views, historical sights, quaint towns and not to forget the beautiful nature.
The Eifel is originally a volcanic area and famous for its many mineral springs. Iron was mined in this area well before the era. The Eifel is also known for its many sulfurous hot springs and spas. The typical Eifel towns combined with beautiful bike trails and natural parks make the German Eifel a special cycling destination!
Old rail lines as bike lanes
You begin your cycling vacation in the historic cathedral city of Aachen. An old railroad that is no longer used has been converted into a bike path so you can enjoy the area car-free. An additional advantage of this Vennbahn is the very low gradient so that nowhere does it get really tough along the way. You bike through the border area with Belgium to Monschau and after Bütgenbach you cross the German border again and the Vennbahn turns into another bike path through the beautiful Nature Park The High Fens.
Via the Kylltalradweg, reach Gerolstein, the spring water town in the Eifel. On the way to Bitburg, the route gradually becomes more difficult with some short climbs with an outlier of 2.5 km. No appetite for this climbing work? No problem, you can also travel by train for this tricky bit. A long descent will take you to Trier, the end point of this cycling vacation.
