You will travel to Avignon on your own. Should you travel by car, it is convenient to park the car at the last overnight location in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. The hotel in Avignon is centrally located and within walking distance of the train station. Marseille is the best arrival airport. The shuttle bus will take you to Vitrolles where you will take the train to Avignon.

This city was the center of the Christian world in the 14th century, what the Vatican is today, and 7 popes ruled from Avignon. Much has been preserved from this rich time. So we recommend you spend the first day walking around extensively and getting a good impression of this city with its impressive papal palaces. A visit to the world-famous Pont d'Avignon is of course not to be missed.
If you would rather get on your bike today, we have a beautiful but long bike route in store for you to Pont du Gard a Roman masterpiece is undoubtedly worth seeing. On the way back you will cycle on a cycle path along the Rhone, back to the hotel in Avignon.

To Aubignan via Chateauf du Pape and Orange. (57km)

Today you will cycle via Chateauneuf and Orrange to your next overnight stop in Aubignan. After crossing the Rhone tributary, you will reach Chateauneuf du Pape via a new cycle path after about 20 km; a nice place for a coffee . The wine from this region is perhaps the most famous in the world, so a visit here should not be missed. After this you cycle on to Orange a city that has many Roman remains, but of course also a Dutch connection through the House of Orange. From Orange you will follow the Via Venassia, a railroad line transformed into a bicycle path, to arrive in Aubignan, your accommodation for the next 2 nights.

Along famous wine villages (37km or 60km)

Today's route takes you past the necessary wine villages and famous quality wines such as the Cote du Rhone, Gigondas and Vacquearas. But besides these wine villages and vineyards, there is much more on the program during today's ride, you will pass the rock formations of the Dentelles de Montmirail and nice places to stop such as the towns of Sablet and Seguret. The latter is also known as one of the most beautiful villages in France.

To Cavaillon (40km)

Today you will cycle along the Via Venassia to head south. A first nice stop is in Pernes-les-Fontaines a beautiful medieval town ideal for a coffee or tea. We advise you to park the bikes in L'Isle sur la Sorgue and have a nice lunch in this town well known for its antique stores.

Cavaillon- Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (30km)

Saint-Remy-de-Provence is known for many things such as the Roman site of Glanum, as the birthplace of Nostradamus. But mostly because of our own Vincent van Gogh who admitted himself here after injuring himself on his ear. In St Remy he had one of his most productive periods. Plus. it is a very beautiful little town. All the more reason to make it just a short drive today so there is plenty of time left to explore St Remy.

Round trip in the surroundings of Saint Rémy-de-Provence (45km)

Today, unfortunately, it is already time for the last bike ride of this cycling vacation. Today's course is more hilly but we promise you, you won't regret it. You will leave Saint-Remy behind and cycle first to Fontvielle for a coffee stop. Then the route continues to the Alpilles to climb to Les Baux de Provence, one of the officially most beautiful villages in France and a nice place to have lunch. After leaving Les Baux you can stop at the Carrieres de Lumieres an old quarry where every year a different artist's oeuvre is projected in the underground passages.
